I've been a lover of Jesus for over 35 years. The toughest battle I've fought is not in keeping my doctrine about Him pure, but keeping my passion for Him alive. When I'm passionate for the Lord I don't struggle to read the Bible or pray, I do this out of a passionate love. Peter and John did not impress their world by their ability to teach about God, but by their passion for God. When religious leaders "Saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus" (Acts 4:13). Their secret? "They had been with Jesus."
Correct teaching is vitally important. Our passion for God, however, cannot be fulfilled in the classroom but in the worship room. Lukewarm Christians are a bad advertisement for a powerful God. Worship Him and take time to dwell in His presence. This is where our passionate love for Jesus is ignited, and this is the most attractive thing about our faith to an unbelieving world.
